This is a follow up to " In My View," as some more prominent members here has asked for.

Tuesday evening here on the Carolina coast was quite pleasant, 60f, light breeze, nice out side.
My wife had several ladies from a local agency prepare the food and serve it.
(This is very common here, we are not wealthy or have servants) The food was excellent and small talk was pleasant . From the look on my wife's face, she was very pleased that the evening was going so well with no major social faux pas from yours truly.
Not only were the two couples from the club present, but a third couple, who are prospective members at the club, were ask to attend. After dinner, we moved to the garden for a glass of well aged port, and one of the gentlemen wanted a cigar. Smoking is not allowed in our home.

As in settings such as this, the conversation drifted from one topic to another, and it was soon evident that again,
I find myself somewhat isolated from this group of my wife's friends, by ideology. These are all good people, well educated, but just a trifle too liberal for my taste.
I was able, to the delight of my wife, to avoid saying much with an occasional smile or nod to indicate I was still conscious, but then the new fellow ask me a direct question about what I thought, and what was my stand on a local liberal social issue , The smile on my wife's face froze, as she knew I would not avoid this opportunity .
(This same type of question was ask of me here in our forum by a person who I respect, medic58, so I copied my response to him, which sums up what I said. )

I am somewhat conseverative by nature. I believe that a man is responsible for his actions of lack their of.
Consequences are generally an adequate lesson to either reinforce behavior or cause it to diminish.
I feel a person should be as self sufficient as possible.
In my opinion ,smaller government, less taxes and fewer intrusions into private lives would be an ideal state.
However, We as a people have an obligation to provide assistance to those that need it, not because we are forced to by some insane law, but because as a member of the human race, it is the right thing to do.
I feel caring and charity are a part of our make up that should be encouraged.
I insist on Integrity , honesty, and responsibility.
I don't give a damn what color you are or who you call God. A good man is a good man.
I have taught my children that their are many choices in life, all have consequences and out comes, at times, risk is necessary, at times courage and valor is demanded. It is how you choose and deal with those choices that indicate who and what you are.
A man's word is his bond. Old fashioned, but I believe that.

Now, from what I just said I will move into this current quagmire.
In my heart of heart I feel most politicians are to some degree, corrupt. (yes, I did say that) They didn't start out that way, but it seems to be a occupational hazard.
The average normal person is really not represented by anyone.
By in large, most politicians are attorneys of one form or another. It has been my experience that to this profession, as a whole, truth is not an absolute. Truth is something that can be molded, twisted and spun to say what is most desirable to fit your point of view. Reality be damned.
Now mind you, this is not an absolute, I have known Lawyers, Judges who are honorable and just men, but by in large, they do not go into politics.

As to our(us) current crop , I am really disappointed that as a country we could not offer better choices.
Of the three out their running now, it is a "lesser of two evils" scenario, and I know one of them on a personal level.
This is a sad commentary on our system .
I still feel professional politicians are not the answer to any country's system.

My wife felt I had crossed the line again, one of the gentlemen present was a personal injury attorney, and the new fellow was a city councilmen, newly elected. However, this is who I am, and how I feel.

The evening rapidly ended, with strained goodbye's, mainly to my wife.
My wife has known me for better than a decade , and you know, I think she was proud of me, even if I did embarrass her again.

ps...don't come to me for marital advice, my track record speaks for itself.....lol
