by aardvark on Wed Mar 19, 2008 12:24 pm Last evening my wife insisted that I accompany her to her bridge club meeting. She felt that I don't get out enough and socialize with normal people (I'm at Oddassy a lot) so I agreed, but no coat and tie. With a golf shirt and slacks, I could get in the back bar, and that was as far as I was going to go. Well, as things go ,I was sitting at the bar listening to these gents lie to each other about a number of things, and about the time my 3rd scotch was served, the discussion turned to politics. The club is rather conservative, but it seems a number of bleeding-heart liberals have infiltrated the ranks. The discussion was intense, and heated and went back and forth. Not being a shy person by nature, I felt these gentlemen could benefit from my understanding of the situation. Both sides of the isle, both conservative and liberal , on both sides of the pond, and down under, share the common problem of professional politicians. It is my feeling that most start out with the people they represent in mind, but after a while these folks become less important. Getting re-elected is paramount. Lie, cheat ,steal, what ever, just get back in office. Getting "face time" on the airways is more important than dealing with the pressing problems of common people. It is a crying shame the politicians waste their time persecuting ball players about steroid use, and our economy is going down the toilet. They are applauding a failed politician with a prize, who fooled the majority of weak minded with lies, junk science, and who's now going to court, instead of providing for homeland security. Our sovernty has gradually been given away from within, no one has taken it from us, and none the less it diminishes almost on an annual basis. Our political leaders jump on board with this "one world government" and surrender our rights to a world court. What about fixing the problems at home. The price of fuel, milk, groceries have all increased significantly in a short period of time, and our government leaders can't even show up to vote in congress, because they are too busy getting re-elected. Or having affairs. Maybe we should have real term limits, where no one serves over a certain period of time. It would require a real productive job, to leave and come back to. Much like we require our reserve military to do today. Perhaps in this manner we would have representation by people who know what the problems are and are willing to help solve the problems and not be a part of the problem. I had several other views that I shared with this group of gents, but that will have to wait for another time........ This is why my wife doesn't leave me alone, for very long ,in a bar. ................jim ![]() |
